New! Bootloader for Amicus & Swordfish

User's Application: TAP-28 Clone - Dominique

Dominique has created an unbelievably nice TAP-28 clone on perf-board.  The following pictures show the clone with his descriptions.

I made a copy of your TAP 28. I used a stripboard and I installed the components with some cut tracks.

The TAP28 board, not so pretty than yours, but made from a stripboard.

Some mods were applied :
  1. I inverted two strips, top of the chip (VCC and GND, much easier fo tthe drawing of the board).
  2. I put a green Led on the power line, used to show that there is no problem with supply (a lot of misfunctiuns come from a lack of power supply).
  3. Selectable switches for the 4 Leds and the 2 momentary switches, instead of your pads.
  4. A general power switch.
  5. A support for different values of quartz. [crystal]
  6. No pull-up resistors. (They are on other daughter boards).
  7. I put two pins under the board, near the main switch, in order to plug them directly in a power supply unit made in the box.

The TAP28 board is installed directly on a box, used for insulating, power supply and storage...
When I don't need the TAP28, I remove it and put it in the box.

A simple box, larger than the board, with some holes in it.

Two pins insuring a good link with power supply ("Plug and Play" type...).

The intermediate power supply : 5v or 3v3 selectable by switch. It's glued under the cover of the box and brings directly power to the TAP28.

And guess what ? That's OK !

And finally, I tested my TAP28 board with a PIC 16F876... enough for the " Hello World ", simple program blinking the 4 Leds and using the two push buttons, wrote with PicBasicPro and transferred with a PicKit2...
OK, I have to study now more powerful chips, like the 18F series...

I hope that these pictures will be useful for those who want to do and don't know how begin...

Regards from Belgium.

Excellent craftsmanship!  Nice changes to meet you needs.  The "board in a box" with power connections makes a nice dev system. ~ Jon
